Your cam end play is set by the step on the back of the cam gear and by the thickness of the cam plate. The step on the back of the cam gear goes through the cam plate and presses against the front face of the #1 cam journal.
Just like the fuel pump eccentric, the recessed washer (CW101) just pushes the inside step of the cam gear against the front face of the front cam bearing journal. The eccentric or the washer do not “set” the cam end play.
Do you have too little or too much cam end play?
Is the cam gear fully seated against the front of the cam?
How thick is the cam plate? Have you checked it for straightness? (If it's warped it will take up your end play)
Typical cam end play on Pontiac is .005"-.015"
