Cars » Floyd Wasoba's 1970 GTO Transformation
Here's a letter from Matt about this amazing 1970 GTO build
"So here's the scoop on the build.... My good friend Floyd Wasoba traded a truck load of hay for this car when he was in high school, when he was in college the car was stolen, they stripped the motor, trans, rear end and interior out of it.... When it was recovered Floyd put it in a barn with the intentions of rebuilding it one day, it had set in the barn for 28 years and as life happens to us all he was never able to rebuild it, he was involved in a logging accident that left him paralyzed from the chest down and had given up on the dreams of ever finishing the car, in early April of 2015 his son Daniel Wosoba called me and asked if I would be interested and helping him rebuild his dad's car .... Of course I jumped at the opportunity to be involved in such a special project, so we devised a plan and snuck the GTO out of the barn without Floyd's knowledge.... On May 7th 2015 we started on the car and on October 3rd 2015 we drove the car into a surprise birthday party for Floyd ( it was a hard 5 months ) ... seeing Floyd's face at the birthday party it was all worth it ... if you paid attention to the walk around video after taking it out of hibernation there is hand controls beside the steering wheel and paddle shifters on the steering wheel.... that's the reason for the swing out roll bars and the corbeau front seats with a 5-point harness, so Floyd can transfer from his wheelchair into the car.... the first car show we took it to it won first place in the muscle car division and when we took the car to the track Floyd went 11.30 at a 119 mph ... I don't think I have ever seen a bigger smile on anyone.
About the car.... It's a 1970 GTO, it has a 494 cubic inch Butler motor that dynoed at over 650hp, the trans is a 4l80e with a 3000 stall converter, the rear end is a Moser 12 bolt with 3:73 gears, the car weighs just over 4,200 lb, the suspension is CCP tubular front and rear with coilovers and big disc brakes on all four corners, the interior and console were custom built around the corbeau seats, it has Vintage Air that blows 42°, Bluetooth radio and will cruise down the road at 70 miles an hour no problem ... and I almost forgot it has a hundred horsepower shot of nitrous just for good measure...."
