Flowkooler Pontiac 8-Bolt 1964-68 Hi Volume Cast Iron Water Pump w/ Billet Aluminum Impeller BRW-1622
Pontiac 8-Bolt 1964-68 Hi Volume Flowkooler Cast Iron Water Pump w/ Billet Aluminum Impeller- w/ New Impeller Design
Description
Pump 1622 features sixteen precision machined blades, an integrated shroud and a military-grade anodized finish. With the increased vane count, we have divided the flow and therefore divided the workload thus improving pump efficiency, conserving valuable horsepower and reducing cavitation. With a substantial reduction in the impeller casting clearance, we are able to achieve greater flow rates, higher head pressure and higher system pressure. Increasing system pressure reduces the onset of hot spots on cylinder walls and formation of steam pockets in the water jacket. Most importantly, by increasing the flow rate at slower speeds and idle, our pump helps knock the temperature down and keep your Pontiac cool.
From 0-3,300 RPM…Nothing Beats a FlowKooler!

Coolant Flow Path
The coolant circulates from the pump into the block to the back of the heads and then forward thru the heads and into the coolant crossover passage in the intake. When the thermostat is closed some coolant is forced through the heater core. The remainder is routed thru the bypass circuit to the back of the timing cover e.g. hot to hot. This routing cycle repeats until the coolant gathers enough heat to trigger the thermostat to open and the radiator to begin cooling.
Reducing the gap between the divider plate and the impeller
Pontiac owners have reported incremental cooling improvements by reducing the backing plate-to-impeller vane clearance to .010 to .100 inch. In closing the impeller-to-plate gap of the bypass more coolant will route to the thermostat and radiator and will initiate the engine cooling process. It also will restrict the internal cycling and “rise-to-temperature” process intended by the engine designer. Modifications to the Pontiac part design are performed at the owner's discretion. FAILURE TO MAINTAIN ADEQUATE CLEARANCE WILL VOID WARRANTY.
***From Flowkooler-"Expect some temporary seepage of coolant from the "weep hole" located on the lower side of the shaft housing. The seal will lap in and the seepage will cease. Failure to follow the installation instructions (#10) will cause premature seal failure."***
